Dr. Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon by profession. He soon realized that in spite of changing physical contours of his patients, he could not change their mentality or their definitions of success or happiness. This led Dr. Maltz into researching the inner self, which makes up your image. Dr. Maltz conducted self-image programs in addition to plastic surgeries on his clients. Most references and results presented in his book are according to actual experiments on his clients.

Psycho-Cybernetics is an excellent book, which stresses on changing your attitudes rather than appearances. He advocates development of positive attitude with various inspirational stories and testimonials. Dr. Maltz professes a straightforward and humorous approach in his book. Happiness, success, failures, miseries are all different inherent habits in humans. Dr. Maltz references draw more credence as he did not have any qualification in psychology.

Psycho-Cybernetics does have few flaws. There are no scientific proofs for various subliminal tapes of Dr. Maltz. It is not easy to change all habits in any person. If that would be the case, society would be free of most of its problems. Besides, doctors would also be able to cure most patients of their ailments. Rather, doctors could use it as a remedy even if it were just half that effective. Although Dr. Maltz claims to have a sale of more than thirty million, testimonials listed hardly count to a dozen. 

However, depite various flaws in Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s book-Psycho-Cybernetics, it is still one of the best books of its kind. Although book has a copyright date of 1960 and Dr. Maltz passed away in 1975, yet book has hardly any competitors to this date. The genuine insight indicated in this book is excellent and few PhD’s can try to come near Dr. Maxwell Maltz and his inferences of human behavior and habits.
