Jazzercise Inc. is a dance and exercise class. The technique as evident by the name- Jazzercise is a combination of dance and exercise and is a mixture of jazz dance, aerobics, yoga, and kickboxing movements. It tones and shapes your body and helps you be physically fit. Thousands of people of all ages have benefited from this technique, which enhances cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility. It is popular and more so because it is a fun and interesting way to be fit, destress and make new friends.
Jazzercise Inc was established in 1977 and has been franchising since 1983. Judi Sheppard Missett was a traditional jazz dance instructor who devised this technique. She is now the CEO and continues to teach and choreograph. The company operates from California, has a turnover of $19.8 million with 6,000 franchises across the world. Ms Missett has been proclaimed the recipient of the third annual Lifetime Achievement Award by Club Industry’s Fitness Business Pro magazine.
A Jazzercise instructor will have to obtain a certification to become a franchise. Becoming a franchise is appealing as it allows you to have your own business ad helps you and so many others to lead a healthy and physically fit life. Instructors after becoming franchisees continue to receive support. They receive weekly tips and support services on choreography, class formats, marketing and public relations, online resources, education, incentives etc.
Ms Missett is engaged in philanthropic work and through Jazzercise has helped generate more than $25 million for various charities. She is actively involved with the Art and Soul Tour, which seek to raise funds for the arts as well as breast cancer research. Ever helpful, she was instrumental in diverting a portion of these funds, in the wake of the hurricane attacks to relief operations.
Jazzercise had joined with the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) to spread awareness on the need for exercise for senior citizens. They offered free classes as well.
