Founded in 1920, the company’s current worth is 2.4 billion dollars and is included in the S&P 500 list of companies. Joseph Johnson together with William Seidemann founded the Snap-on Wrench Company in 1920. The company pioneered the tool industry by manufacturing ten sockets that would "snap on" to five interchangeable handles. This concept brought revolution to the tool industry and modern socket wrench was created. Snap-on’s innovative leadership to manufacture different types of tools and equipments has been going on this day.

To reach out to international customers, Snap-on started doing business in international markets in 1931.

In 1930, Snap-on was the first company in the industry, which offered credit to customers. 

Snap-On sells its products through its franchise dealer vans. This concept was started in 1950 with an objective of taking products directly to customers.

With one-on-one relationships that Snap-on dealers have with customers, the customers get up to date information about new products such as hand tools, power tools, heavy machinery tools, diagnostic tools, etc.

Snap-on is a pioneer of interchangeable sockets and a leader in tools industry that has manufactured many innovative tools and equipments that are result of its pioneering research and development. The credit for inventing Flank Drive® wrenching system also goes to Snap-on. Using innovative designs and latest techniques, Snap-On today manufactures approximately 14,000 products.

Word-of-mouth publicity plays an important role in Snap-on's promotional strategy. Snap-on has also been associated with motor sports for more than 70 years.
