E Commerce uses various kinds of electronic communication technology like e-mail, Ebooks, databases, mobile phones, and of course the Internet. E Commerce started with electronic transfer devices that existed in the 1970s. It has greatly evolved since then and can now be used to conduct business globally. In the early 1990s when the Internet became popular, E Commerce began to be seen as something that could be successfully deployed and used over the Internet. It was only around 1999-2000 that websites set-up E Commerce facilities. By 2003, E Commerce generated $12 billion in revenue annually. Today, any end user can log on and use the HTTPS secure sites to shop for products and services. Connection security, data encryption, virtual shopping carts, and credit card payment approvals are some of the common tools seen on such websites.
A few things are the hallmark of E Commerce success. For one, since it is an online model, you must have a sound business plan as the basis of your E Commerce website. To add to this you must provide a secure shopping environment to customers so that they do not fear charging their card. The product line must be attractive. It can be either generalized or specific depending on what you have in mind. Either way the products should be presented in a friendly manner that almost duplicates personalized service at a local store. Add product information and use an array of colors to make your website look attractive. Most customers may be new to online shopping and your website must provide enough guidance on completing the process successfully. Add on features like chat rooms and discussion boards lend a sense of community to the shopping website. Another major thing to remember is to be flexible and change with the change in economy and social environment.
