Laundry disks are non-toxic tools for doing laundry. They were sold through a large number of companies by mail order in the last decade, as a superior cleaning tool. They are advertised in a CD costing ninety-five dollars. The laundry disk is a plastic disk, which can wash clothes without detergent. The basis of its functioning is that the disks change the molecular structure of the water, so that it can absorb more dirt. This was later proved a fraudulent claim. The laundry disks were totally fake and the company was taken to task for wrongful product claims.

Independent studies have proved repeatedly that laundry disks, rings, and balls do not kill bacteria, nor do they react with water. The expensive enzymes sold with these laundry disks do not clean any better than ordinary detergent. They do not remove stains and their cleaning action is no better than that of a washing machine. Laundry disks are no miracle devices for cleaning clothes. On the other hand, one must check them for copper content. The copper oxide may have a bactericidal effect, but is extremely harmful when it is exposed to one’s skin. It can lead to copper poisoning with fatal side effects.

Almost all the claims of the laundry disks have been proved false. Cleaning action with plain hot water was as good as that with the laundry disks.  The amount of detergent used was not less than that used in a washing machine.
