William J McCorkel tried to convince people how to make big gains at auctions, through his infomercials. An infomercial showed William J McCorkel and his wife close to a jet that they claimed to have bought recently at an auction. He suggested how to make excellent purchases at auctions where people hardly turned up making your chances brighter. He urged people to visit auctions to get valuable items at dirt-cheap prices by giving lucrative examples that simply do not exist.

In reality, William J McCorkel was trying to recieve money from people for his distressed property system. He claimed in his infomercials that none other than he could show you the government auctions and how you can gain by buying things at a considerably low cost. He also promised people to help them at different steps whether they needed a partner or just any help. The authenticity of the work and the promises can be had from the fact that now he is serving a sentence of 24 years in a federal prison. He has mastered a huge infomercial swindle and is thus paying its price.

He ripped off thousands of innocent people of their pennies and made huge profits through it. In 1996 and partly in 1997, William J McCorkel sold a government auction system. Keeping this as the background, he led people into believing that if they invested in this business opportunity they may have the prospect of working with William J McCorkel and his highly skilled staff. While he pretended to be working for the government auction, actually he was not attached with it. He just fooled the people and made money, through a complete sham.

Gradually both William J McCorkel and his wife started moving funds to the shore and shredding documents. This raised the suspect of the investigators, and on digging deeper into the matter the truth came out. While he tried to defend his case, William J McCorkel received 24 years of imprisonment. Though the punishment seems quite harsh for fraud, it is inflicted more so to deter any other such case of pure swindle.
