In 1986, the anime movie Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!, narrating the adventures of Mario, who in the story must defeat Bowser and save Princess Peach. It was never released outside of Japan, and so many people are unlikely to have seen the official version of this anime. However, this did not stop the fan from creating a remaster, so far, however, in unfinished form.

YouTube channel author Carnivol published a video showing the anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! in enhanced quality and 4K resolution. The project is still in an unfinished state, but work is ongoing.

It has been several years in the making. For the project, the author uses a 16mm theatrical version of the film.
